Getting started with RCS is simple-no extra downloads needed if you're on a compatible device. Most modern phones already include Google Messages, which supports RCS out of the box. On Android, you'll need version 5.0 or higher; on Apple devices, iOS 18 or later.

To enable RCS messaging, just open your Messages app, head to Settings > Chat Features, and switch on “Enable Chat Features.” Once active, you’ll unlock read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality media sharing, and more—right inside your default messaging app. Just remember: both you and your recipient need RCS enabled to use its advanced features..

Yes. While RCS was once exclusive to Android, Apple has introduced native RCS support with iOS 18. That means texting between iPhone and Android finally feels modern-with sharper photos and videos, delivery and read receipts, typing indicators, and more reliable group chats.

You'll still see the classic green bubbles for non-iMessage conversations, but the experience is a massive upgrade from the old SMS/MMS days. No more blurry clips. No more compressed images. Just seamless, high-quality texting across platforms.

Android and Apple: Finally Speaking the Same Language

RCS texting is finally bridging the long-standing divide between Android and iPhone users. For years now, users have been limited to blurry videos, compressed images and no interactive features when iMessage and SMS were forced together.

With RCS now built into iOS 18, those limitations are quickly becoming ancient history. While Apple refuses to relinquish the infamous green texts when chatting with non-iPhone users, the actual experience when texting between devices has vastly improved. You may have noticed in the last few months that you can now share high-resolution videos with your Android friends and that's all thanks to RCS!

Security and Privacy in RCS Messaging

RCS takes texting security far beyond old-school SMS. Apps like Google Messages use end-to-end encryption with Transport Layer Security (TLS), ensuring that only you and your recipient can see what’s shared—no one else.

Businesses can also verify their identity through RCS, creating more trust and peace of mind when you’re shopping, booking, or confirming services over text.

Will RCS Messaging Raise My Phone Bill?

No. RCS messages don't count against your texting plan-they're sent over Wi-Fi or your mobile data. For most conversations, the data use is so minimal you won't even notice.

The only time it might matter is if you're sending lots of long, high-quality videos. In those cases, RCS simply pulls from your data plan the same way streaming or browsing does.

RCS Messaging for Businesses

For businesses, RCS is a game-changer. It transforms plain text into a branded, app-like experience-complete with high-resolution images, video, and GIFs delivered right inside the messaging app.

With interactive tools like quick-reply buttons, "book now" prompts, and suggested actions, customers can connect, order, or get information in just a tap. The result: faster responses, higher engagement, and a seamless experience that makes your brand stand out in even the busiest inbox.

How RCS Messages Can Boost Your Brand

In a world where scam calls and phishing attempts are everywhere, trust matters more than ever. RCS gives businesses a powerful way to stand out with branded messaging and verified sender information, so customers instantly know they’re talking to the real you.

Features like delivery and read receipts provide clear insights into engagement, helping you refine follow-ups and sharpen your marketing strategy. And with rich media, interactivity, and verified communication built in, RCS elevates brand conversations into experiences-modern, measurable, and far more impactful than traditional SMS.

Preguntas frecuentes

Yes, RCS messages are sent over mobile data or Wi-Fi rather than the traditional SMS network. If you're connected to Wi-Fi, RCS messages won't use your mobile data. When using mobile data, RCS consumes a small amount depending on media shared, such as photos or videos.

Most group chats will work seamlessly with RCS, depending on what text app you are using. You can send media, see typing indicators, and get read receipts in supported group chats. If some participants don't have RCS enabled, messages will fall back to SMS/MMS, which may limit certain features.

Yes! Any new smartphone you purchase with your Boost Mobile plan will have RCS capabilities. As long as your Apple device is running iOS 18 or later (which is pretty much all new phones) then you are good to go!

Currently, most RCS platforms do not allow message recall once delivered. However, you can delete messages from your device. Keep in mind that deletion only removes it from your phone-it won't remove the message from the recipient's device.

On Android, open the Messages app, go to Settings > Chat Features, and toggle off "Enable Chat Features." This will revert your messages to standard SMS/MMS. Messages will automatically fall back to SMS if the recipient doesn't support RCS.

To turn off RCS messaging on your iPhone, go to Settings > Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging and toggle the button to “off.”

To turn off read receipts, open your Messages app, go to Settings > Chat Features, and toggle off "Send read receipts." Once disabled, others won't see when you've read their messages, giving you more control over your privacy
